Aero Hand Open: A $314 Open-Source Tendon-Driven Dexterous Hand

Loading video
Loading videoAero Hand Open from Chestnut Robotics weighs 389 g and has 7 active degrees of freedom across 16 joints, three of them in the thumb. Cables run through the fingers like tendons, so one motor bends several joints at once. Open-source CAD STEP files, 3D-printable parts, firmware and a MuJoCo simulation model ship with the $314 kit; the fully assembled version is about $720. Still a research prototype, and long-term reliability is unproven.
