Overview
TARS AI (Shanghai) A1 is a precision-assembly mobile manipulation robot for real industrial environments, pairing a humanoid upper body with a wheeled lifting-column base to tackle sub-millimeter tasks such as wire-harness assembly. On 10 March 2026 it completed 105 flexible wire-harness insertions in 60 continuous minutes, setting the Guinness World Record for the most sub-millimeter wire harness assemblies by a robot in one hour, the first such honor for a Chinese embodied-AI company in industrial precision operation. Driven by the AWE 3.0 embodied foundation model (VLTA architecture, WAIC 2026 SAIL Award) and the in-house 21-DoF DexHand (1:1 human scale with micro-vision and elastomer tactile sensing), A1 demonstrated multi-step packing and live-error-correcting sub-millimeter harness insertion at ICRA 2026. The platform offers 35 total DoF, 17.5 kg payload, 80 kg weight, 3 h runtime, 0.83 m/s travel (1.11 m/s max) and IP20 protection. Founded in February 2025, TARS closed a $455M Pre-A round in April 2026, bringing total funding to about $575M.
