Overview

Optimus Gen 3 is Tesla's third-generation humanoid, not yet officially unveiled as of August 2026 — Musk said on the 2026-04-22 Q1 earnings call that V3 will be revealed closer to production start. Confirmed direction: Fremont production starts July–August 2026 (initial output 'quite slow', ~10,000 unique parts); Gen-1 line designed for 1M robots/year, Gen-2 line at Giga Texas planned for 10M/year (from 2027). Gen 3 uses the AI5 chip for on-device inference without connectivity; Grok-level conversation needs a connection. The 22-DOF new hand (Nov 2024; patents show 25 actuators) carries over.
